MONTREAL -- Police north of Montreal were still looking Monday for a man sought in the weekend slaying of a 71-year-old woman.

Laval police said Christophe Oliviera remained on the lam, but surveillance camera footage from inside the metro system Saturday showed the suspect was heading towards Montreal.

On Monday, a police spokesperson said the suspect was seen on the video chatting with someone.

"The suspect was in contact with this individual in a metro station and left with him," said spokeswoman Stephanie Beshara. "He is considered an important witness."

Police were called to a duplex around 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Laval, just north of Montreal, where they found the victim outside the home with signs of trauma on her body.

Her death was declared at the scene.

Police say the suspect, 31, lived with the victim but was not related to her.

They say Oliviera is about six feet tall, with black hair and multiple tattoos, including a star on his left hand and a skull and book on his left arm.
