TORONTO - The provincial government says it is supporting a new program aimed at giving youth the knowledge, skills, experience and support they need to make social changes and create jobs.
MaRS Discovery District's Studio Y is a nine month program that will include intensive training and mentoring for up to 25 youth aged 18 to 29.
The government says the curriculum will be focused on helping participants become social entrepreneurs -- turning bright ideas into new businesses, while creating jobs and growing the economy.
Children and Youth Services Minister Teresa Piruzza says programs like Studio Y are an investment in the future that will help youth foster social change.
Applications open Oct. 1, and the first group of young people are to begin the program in January 2014.
MaRS says those entering the Studio Y program will participate in weekly learning challenges, designed encourage creative thinking, problem-solving and community engagement.
