GATINEAU, Que. - The Canadian Museum of Civilization has a new director general.

The post goes to Mark O'Neill, who has held various executive positions at the museum for the last decade.

He is also a former director general of the Canadian War Museum.

Heritage Minister James Moore says O'Neill will play a key role in strengthening Canadians' understanding of their history.

O'Neill has been a public servant for 25 years.

O'Neill succeeds Victor Rabinovitch, who served two five-year terms, plus an additional year.
