Crews respond to fire at Grand Bend Rona, section of Highway 21 closed

Emergency crews attended the Rona in Grand Bend on Friday following a large fire.

Drivers are being asked to avoid a section of Highway 21 in Grand Bend late Friday afternoon due to a fire at the local Rona store.

According to social media posts from OPP West Region and Lambton Shores Fire and Emergency Services, crews are currently battling a building fire the Grand Bend Rona.

In an update from police shortly after 6 p.m., police said the closure of Highway 21/Ontario Street has been extended to the section located between Main Street and Greenway Road.

Emergency crews are in the area and drivers should plan an alternate route.

Residents in the nearby subdivision are asked to shelter in place and close windows and doors and follow further instructions from on-scene emergency personnel.

OPP also say residents of the Lake Road and Pines Parkway areas can go to the Royal Canadian Legion to shelter if needed.

The cause of the blaze, any potential injuries and the damage estimate remain unknown at this time.
