Owen Sound man dies after collision with tractor trailer in Meaford

A 61-year-old Owen Sound man has died after his vehicle collided with a tractor trailer in the Municipality of Meaford.

Grey County OPP are investigating the fatal crash that took place on Highway 26, just east of Grey Road 5 around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Inter-Township Fire Department and Grey County EMS assisted at the scene.

A preliminary investigation has determined that the lone driver of a 2015 Kia Soul vehicle was travelling eastbound on Hwy. 26.

Police say the vehicle entered the westbound lane and collided head on with a 2006 Kenworth tractor trailer.

The driver of the Kia was extricated from the vehicle and taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

He has been identified as 61-year old Eric Westholm of Owen Sound.

The driver of the tractor trailer, a 48-year-old man from Mount Forest, was not injured.

Highway 26 was closed between Grey Road 5 and Grey Road 11 in Meaford for much of the day due to the crash but has since re-opened.
