Overnight warming centre hours activated at Boyle Memorial Community Centre

The City of London has activated overnight hours at a warming centre at the Boyle Memorial Community Centre, due to the ongoing winter storm.

The services will be offered from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m., offering more capacity for those in need.

“The city has been working closely with the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU), as well as our community service providers, to prepare for the extreme cold weather,” said Mayor Josh Morgan.

“Teams from across the City of London are once again stepping up to offer additional temporary shelter during this extremely difficult weather, to keep our most vulnerable community members safe.”

The extended hours is a temporary measure. Staff are expected to give a broader report to council at a future meeting of the Community and Protective Services Committee.

Because the temporary overnight hours have taken effect, programming has been temporarily discontinued. Cleaning will take place after the warming services are done in the morning.

Daytime warming centres are open for regular hours at East Lions Community Centre, North London Optimist Community Centre, South London Community Centre, Canada Games Aquatic Centre, and Carling Heights Community Centre.
