HPPH reports measles exposures at Clinton and Stratford ED

Huron Perth Public Health has issued community warnings about new measles exposures at hospitals in the area.

Stratford General Hospital – Emergency Department waiting room

• 46 General Hospital Dr., Stratford
• Monday, May 5, 9:39 p.m. to Tuesday, May 6, 2025, 2:10 a.m.
• Wednesday, May 7, 2:40 p.m.-7:00 p.m.

Clinton Public Hospital – Emergency Department waiting room

• 98 Shipley St., Clinton
• Thursday, May 8, 4:45 p.m.- 7:15 p.m.

Public health officials caution anyone that was present at these locations in these timeframes should monitor for symptoms for up to 21 days after exposure, even if they were only present briefly.

Symptoms include fever, runny nose, cough, and red watery eyes. White spots can appear on the inside of the mouth and throat, but not always, and a red blotchy rash appears on the face and then spreads down the body around seven days after symptoms begin.

Anyone that develops measles symptoms is urged to contact Huron Perth Public Health.

The surge in measles cases continues to balloon throughout southwestern Ontario, with 1,440 cases reported to Public Health Ontario from October 18, 2024 to May 6, 2025. Throughout this period, Huron Perth Public Health ranked third in the province for number of cases, with a total of 175 reported.
