High rise apartment blaze sends one to hospital

A high rise apartment fire in southeast London Tuesday morning has sent one person to hospital.

The blaze broke shortly before 1:30 a.m. at 470 Scenic Dr..

Witnesses reported seeing heavy smoke pouring from a third-floor apartment.

Firefighters quickly entered and put out the fire, smoke damage was reported on all floors.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.

In the wake of the fire, officials are reminding the public to ensure all smoking materials are extinguished after use.
