‘Doesn’t feel real’: Zack Fry of London, Ont. wins 2025 Grey Cup

Zack Fry hasn’t slept much the past two nights.

“It’s been hectic, but it’s been awesome,” said Fry, an offensive lineman with the Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders.

“Coming back [from Winnipeg] and having the fans waiting at the airport and follow you back to the stadium. Then that parade yesterday [Tuesday] was just awesome.”

Fry played in the 2025 Grey Cup game win at right guard and blocked for two touchdown scoring runs by the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback against the Montreal Alouettes in the 25-17 victory.

“I was the sixth man for the Grey Cup,” said Fry, who went to high school at Regina Mundi College in London, before playing for the Western Mustangs.

“I was on field goal and a couple of short yardage plays. I was in for the two Tommy Stevens’ touchdowns, so that was pretty cool. Unfortunately, late in the game, our, left tackle actually went down, so I ended up playing around the last 10 snaps to close it out.”

Rider Nation packed the streets of Regina, Sask. Tuesday as the championship parade went from is flooding Regina streets as the Roughriders parade from 13th Avenue down Albert Street to the Saskatchewan Legislature.

“We just turned that corner on Albert Street and you see the wave of fans,” said Fry. “It was a wave of green just everywhere. Then getting to that legislative building and everyone being there and the shirts were coming off. The support was awesome, and it really is the best place to play in the CFL.”

Surprisingly this is only the fifth Grey Cup in Roughriders history and the first since 2013.

Fry was thrilled to be able to share this with his parents and his brother.

“My parents actually drove for the West final, so a long, 24 hour drive, and then they stayed the entire week and came to Winnipeg [for the Grey Cup],” said Fry.

“My brother flew on the day of the game. It was just awesome having all those guys there and then the support they gave me. Shout out to them because I don’t know how they drive 24 hours. They’ve done it multiple times this year come watch me play.”

It’s time now for him to catch up on that sleep.

“It still kind of doesn’t feel real,” said Fry. “I remember waking up the day after, and it’s kind of like we still have another game to play, another week to play. But the season is over, and we had a lot of ups and downs and a lot of injuries, especially to the O-line room. It was a great year, and I can’t wait to try it again.”
