Charges laid after north London, Ont. carjacking

Police say a man has been charged after officers responded to a carjacking in the north end of the city over the weekend.

The incident happened around 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the area of Wonderland and Sarnia roads.

According to police, a man exiting a vehicle was approached by a man.

The suspect produced a knife, demanded the victim’s car keys, and threatened him before fleeing in the vehicle, police say.

Police later found the suspect and the vehicle in the area of Maitland and King streets, and the suspect allegedly tried to flee by ramming into two marked police cruisers.

The suspect refused to exit the vehicle, and officers broke the driver’s side window and pulled the man from his seat.

No injuries were reported.

A 30-year-old London man has been charged with the following:

• Theft of a motor vehicle with violence
• Impaired
• Resist arrest
• Operation while prohibited
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

He remains in custody and has a court appearance scheduled for later this week.
