Cat in transformer knocks out power to hundreds east of St. Thomas

Some residents east of St. Thomas are waking up to water in their basement after power went out just before 2 a.m.

A Hydro One crew member working on the transformer on Yarmouth Centre Rd. Saturday morning told CTV News that a cat got into the transformer and caused the outage.

The outage map listed close to 1,200 people without power. Power was restored around 8:45 a.m. Saturday morning after seven hours.

A Hydro One employee tells CTV News that the cat died during the incident.
