New Ontario government interventions and jitters from the Home Capital Group drama -- whether well founded or not -- have seen a flood of new listings hit the market as sellers rush to cash in on the historic run-up in housing prices.
In Toronto alone, the number of new properties up for sale soared 33.6 per cent in April over the same month in 2016, according to the Toronto Real Estate Board. However, the extra selection has yet to translate to meaningful price breaks for homebuyers. The average price across the province jumped 24 per cent year-over-year last month to $668,589, according to the Canadian Real Estate Association.
But when you start delving into the rarified air of ultra-high-end properties, $700,000 is scarcely enough to refurbish the wine cellar or add a new wing to the humidor.
Real estate search portal Point2Homes has released a list of the most expensive homes for sale in Ontario to give us an idea of what that exclusive market looks like.
