What is top of mind in the Waterloo Region area as voters head to the polls?

CTV's Ashley Bacon hits the local polling stations to check in with voters on election day.

People across the country are heading to polling stations to cast their ballot in the federal election.

For some voters in Waterloo Region and the surrounding areas, their minds were made up weeks ago.

Early voters by riding:

“The question is will there be a flow of new voters in this election,” Political Science Professor at the University of Waterloo Peter Woolstencroft told CTV News Monday afternoon. “We don’t know that until the results come in tonight.”

Woolstencroft said undecided voters will be a key element in the election in addition to two major issues:

“One is the Trump threat,” he explained. “The other is, ‘I’m very concerned about my economic future or the economic future of my children.’ [There are] a lot of economic uncertainties – employment, prices, affordability for housing.”

“This is a very important election because whoever becomes the Prime Minister will be having to make a lot of big decisions that are going to affect the future for yourself and for the country for the next generation,” Woolstencroft said.
