Officers seize loaded handgun, drugs following investigation in Kitchener

Waterloo Regional Police have charged two people after officers seized a loaded handgun and drugs as part of an investigation in Kitchener.

According to police, officers on patrol found a parked vehicle with two people inside near Lancaster Street West and Wellington Street North at around 3:35 a.m. Monday.

After further investigation, officers learned that the man in the driver’s seat was breaching a term of his release order. Police arrested the man and also arrested a female passenger for drug offences.

Police also seized suspected cocaine, hydromorphone and a loaded handgun.

A 35-year-old man was charged with:

• Possession of suspected cocaine
• Possession of hydromorphone
• Unauthorized possession of firearm
• Unauthorized possession of weapon
• Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
• Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
• Possession contrary to order
• Failure to comply with probation order
• Two counts of failure to comply with judicial release order

The 26-year-old woman was charged with:

• Possession of suspected cocaine
• Possession of hydromorphone
• Unauthorized possession of firearm
• Unauthorized possession of weapon
• Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
• Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
