Crime Stoppers increasing rewards for human trafficking tips

Crime Stoppers organizations across southern Ontario are bumping up their cash rewards in the hopes of combating human trafficking.

Crime Stoppers in Waterloo Region, Guelph-Wellingt

on, Halton, Durham Region and Niagara Region are offering $2,000 for information leading to human trafficking arrests until Sept. 1.

People who provide tips that lead to an arrest for human trafficking offences will receive the maximum award, according to a release from Crime Stoppers on Thursday.

Recently, Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington teamed up with the Guelph Police Service, Victim Services Wellington and Guelph Wellington Women in Crisis to release an informational video on human trafficking. They said the goal was to dispels the myths surrounding the crime, and specifically, sex trafficking.
