Brant-Brantford Crime Stoppers offering up to $1,000 cash rewards as part of fentanyl initiative

Brant-Brantford Crime Stoppers is offering big cash rewards for fentanyl trafficking tips. CTV’s Heather Senoran reports.

Brant-Brantford Crime Stoppers is offering hundreds of dollars through a new campaign aimed at stopping fentanyl trafficking.

The initiative called ‘Stop Fentanyl. Save Lives.’ will be running from June 1 until July 31.

“Fentanyl traffickers don’t wear a sign saying, ‘I’m a fentanyl trafficker,’” Crime Stoppers Coordinator Dean McIntosh said. “That’s why we like to encourage the public to call in and help.”

Crime Stoppers will be offering cash rewards for anonymous tips that lead to the arrest of fentanyl traffickers or a significant seizure of fentanyl within Brantford, Brant County and Six Nations of the Grand River.

The rewards range from $500 to $1,000.

Tips can be submitted at www.crimestoppersbb.com.

If a tip meets the criteria for the reward, Crime Stoppers will make arrangements with the tipster to collect the cash while ensuring their identity is protected.

“They arrange to pay in a way that they’re not seeking names or identities of anybody. They just want the information,” said Chris Lewis, a former OPP commissioner and CTV’s public safety analyst.

Lewis said it is a good incentive for more tips and aptly timed with the trend of fentanyl use rising.

“In the case of fentanyl, such a deadly scourge, this is a good opportunity to remind people that Crime Stoppers is there and they’re listening,” Lewis said.

Recent stats

Data from Crime Stoppers shows Brantford Police seized more than double the amount of fentanyl, 5,401g, in 2024 and 2025 compared to 2022 and 2023, 2,066g.

The number of fentanyl related charges remains uncharged so far when comparing the two timeframes.

The data also shows 38 overdose-related deaths were reported in 2022 and 2023, compared to 26 deaths so far in 2024 and 2025.

Meanwhile, Six Nations Police seized 4,063g of fentanyl in 2022 and 2023, but they have only seized 975g of fentanyl in 2024 and 2025 so far.

However, they have already laid 28 charges in 2024 and 2025 compared to 45 charges in 2022 and 2023.

Three overdose related deaths have been reported by Six Nations Police for both time periods.

“The recent stats show that the problem isn’t going away. It’s actually becoming significantly worse,” said McIntosh.

About Fentanyl

Grand Erie Public Health describes fentanyl as a potent opioid, 20 to 40 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine.

“The unregulated opioid supply is unpredictable in both its composition and potency,” a spokesperson for Grand Erie Public Health said in a statement to CTV News. “The concentration of fentanyl is highly variable between different batches of drugs, and the fentanyl supply is also highly contaminated with other drugs . This makes the risk of accidental overdose very high.”

The health unit said between 2019 to 2023, fentanyl was the most common opioid present at opioid-related deaths. In 2023, 83.3 per cent of deaths involved fentanyl.
