Bad behavior at Wellington County golf course causes thousands in damages

Wellington County golf course damaged OPP are searching for four suspects they believe caused thousands of dollars in damage at a golf course. CTV’s Colton Wiens has more.

Provincial police are trying to identify four people who caused “extensive” damage to a golf course in Puslinch.

The incident was reported on Saturday Aug. 19.

In an email to CTV News Kitchener, OPP said there was “general destructive use” of a golf cart, which they suspect included “donuts, drifting, jumping and general stunting.”

Damage to the golf cart is estimated at $2,000, while destruction to the grounds is only described as “extensive.”

STAFF REACT

Staff at Victoria Park Valley Golf Club said it was their business that was targeted.

“So there's some tracks on the greens,” explained David Decorso, the club’s general manager. “There was some donuts all over the golf course.”

Decorso said it’s fixed now but he found out about it Saturday morning after he was shown a video postrd on TikTok of people driving through bunkers and across the green.

“It's just a shame that a very small percentage of people, you know, just for whatever reason, for maybe [just] the post online,” Decorso added.

The club said the video has since been taken off the social media app.

Decorso believes the people in the cart were not looking to play on the course.

He said there’s about $2,000 in damages to one golf cart.

“I mean, the golf carts are a huge investment and it demoralizes the staff and demoralizes the other players that take pride and playing here,” he said.

Staff described the damage to the grounds as “extensive.”

“It definitely a hindrance for other players,” said Andrew Roosenboom, the head golf professional at the club. “It's definitely annoying to see that stuff happen at the facility here.”

Staff hope this incident is the last and whoever is responsible is held accountable for their actions.
