QUEBEC - Premier Jean Charest has named Education Minister Line Beauchamp as his new second-in-command.
Beauchamp replaces Nathalie Normandeau as deputy premier.
The 48-year-old Beauchamp has been a member of the legislature since 1998 and has held several cabinet portfolios.
Normandeau quit politics on Tuesday to pursue personal goals after 13 years in provincial politics.
Charest is also bringing some other changes to his cabinet, with Pierre Moreau switching to the pressure-packed transport portfolio from intergovernmental affairs.
He is being replaced by Yvon Vallieres, a veteran member of the legislature.
The much-criticized Sam Hamad is being shuffled to economic development from transport.
