'Immediately stop using': Health Canada warns against use of baby car seat bought on Amazon.ca

Health Canada released a consumer product advisory on Monday against the use of a baby car seats for babies and toddlers that are available for purchase on Amazon.ca.

The report warned that generic baby car seats with adjustable headrest and shoulder straps sold under the Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN): B0D29WX2MW "could increase the risk of injury during a collision."

Officials say none of the products display a Transport Canada National Safety Mark and have not been certified to meet the safety requirements of the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations.

Health Canada also said the use of such restraints “would be considered illegal” under provincial and territorial highway regulations.

"Consumers who have these affected products should immediately stop using them and safely dispose of the items in such a way that they cannot be used again," Health Canada said.

Health Canada says the product was removed from Amazon.ca for purchase and that they’ve reached out to foreign selling companies to do the same. Amazon.ca reported that approximately 20 car seats were sold in Canada, but no incidents or injuries related to the product were reported. 

Health Canada urges consumers to "regularly check" the Healthy Canadians Recalls and Safety Alerts database for dangerous products and remove any items of concern.

Last year, Health Canada issued a recall for a series of car seats manufactured in China and sold on Temu.com. Similar to this circumstance, those products did not display a Transport Canada National Safety Mark and were not certified to meet safety regulations.

Health Canada is reminding consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of these products or any others by filling out a Consumer Product Incident Report form.
