HALIFAX - A former Tory cabinet minister facing charges in Nova Scotia's spending scandal had a court date set today for a pre-trial conference between his lawyer and the Crown.

The lawyer for Richard Hurlburt and the Crown agreed to meet on Nov. 18 in the province's Supreme Court in Halifax.

Hurlburt has yet to enter pleas on counts of fraud over $5000, breach of trust by a public officer and uttering forged documents.

Outside court, Crown attorney Andrew Macdonald and defence lawyer Stan MacDonald said the pre-trial conference is a chance to discuss issues in dispute relating to Hurlburt's case.

Hurlburt is one of three former politicians and one current member of the legislature charged following a lengthy police investigation into alleged spending abuses.

The charges came after provincial auditor general Jacques Lapointe uncovered several cases of what he described as excessive and inappropriate spending of constituency funds.

Earlier this month, former legislature member Dave Wilson pleaded guilty to charges of fraud, forging documents and breach of trust.

He will be sentenced Jan. 25.
