TIFF 2016: Facts about Toronto's International Film Festival

TORONTO -- The Toronto International Film Festival kicks off this week, running Sept. 8 to 18. Here are some facts about this year's lineup:

-- There are 397 films screening in total: 296 features, 101 shorts.

-- Of the features, 138 of them are world premieres.

-- The films come from 83 countries.

-- There are 38 Canadian features, including co-productions.

-- Of the Canadian features, 29 of them are making their world premiere, including co-productions.

-- There are also 38 Canadian shorts, including co-productions.

-- A total of 6,933 films were submitted to the fest: 5,693 of them international, 1,240 of them Canadian.

-- 28 screens are being used during the fest.

-- The longest film in the lineup is director Lav Diaz's drama "The Woman Who Left," which runs 227 minutes.

-- The longest screening at the fest is 449 minutes, for the Czech Republic mystery miniseries "Wasteland," which is in the Primetime television program.

-- The shortest films are "Anima, Silueta de Cohetes" and "Silueta Sangrienta," which are each two minutes long.
