TORONTO -- Actors Dan Aykroyd, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Kyle MacLachlan are in Toronto to help announce an upcoming Stand Up To Cancer Canada broadcast special.

The stars joined members of the cancer research community this morning to talk about the fundraiser, which will air Sept. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

All four of Canada's English-language network broadcasters -- CTV, CBC, City and Global -- plan to simultaneously air the live, one-hour telethon commercial-free.

The event is a program of EIF Canada, which supports collaborative research teams and education and awareness programs in this country.

Aykroyd, Ferguson and MacLachlan are celebrity ambassadors for Stand Up To Cancer Canada (SU2C Canada).

A star-studded American counterpart already airs annually across the U.S. from Hollywood.

It's also set for Sept. 5 and participants will include U.S. broadcasters ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, HBO, Showtime, Lifetime, ESPNews and many others.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Joel Gallen are returning to produce the U.S. telecast for a second time and other stars from TV, film and music will encourage and accept donations from the public. The money raised supports cross-disciplinary research toward new cancer treatments.
