The proposed Corner Gas movie is all fuelled up after surpassing its $100,000 crowdfunding goal just one day after the project was posted on the website Kickstarter.

That means star Brent Butt and the rest of the folks from fictional Dog River, Sask. will reunite to film the movie next month for a December theatrical release.

The entire original cast is expected to return, and the plot will involve community members trying to save their town from a big corporation, producers said.

Butt created and starred in the original Corner Gas television series, which revolved around a gas station owner and his neighbours in a small Saskatchewan town.

Corner Gas movie backers will receive various pieces of paraphernalia, depending on the amount of their donations.

Most of the high-level Kickstarter rewards have already been claimed, including the top prize, a speaking role in the film for a person pledging $8,000 to the project. The next-highest prize still available is a stool from the show’s Ruby Café set, promised to the first 10 people who pledge $3,000 or more.

With its initial goal complete, the campaign is now aiming for “stretch goals” that could see the addition of more special effects ($200,000), promotional appearances by the cast ($350,000), a making-of documentary ($500,000) and even transforming the Corner Gas station into a tourist attraction for one year ($750,000).

Corner Gas went off the air in 2009 after six seasons and 107 episodes.
