Singer Bruno Mars has spoken out for the first time since his 55-year-old mother Bernadette Hernandez passed away at the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, last Saturday from an apparent brain aneurysm.

He wrote on Twitter: "So thankful for all the love during the most difficult time in my life. I'll be back on my feet again soon. That what mom wants, she told me."

The 27-year-old Grammy Award winner's devoted fans were quick to re-iterate their eternal support for their musical idol, reminding him to stay strong in this difficult time.

One fan replied, "Stay strong @BrunoMars & remember that you are very loved & you can & will make it through this (sic)", while another chimed in, "@BrunoMars praying for you and your family through this hard time. She's insanely proud and will be watching ur career grow even more! (sic)"

Grieving Bruno was extremely close to his Philippine-born mother and even devoted a song to his "favourite girl" called 'I Love My Mom'. The singer - whose real name is Peter Hernandez - also has the name 'Bernadette' inked on his shoulder.

The star's famous friends have expressed their well-wishes, with Rihanna - who lost her beloved grandmother, Clara 'Dolly' Braithwaite, last year - showing her love.

She tweeted earlier this week: "Sending my love and condolences to Bruno Mars at this difficult time! I'm sincerely praying for you bro! #1Love (sic)"

Bernadette was rushed to hospital last Friday night in a critical condition, with her close family flying in to support her at her bedside.
