PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- Music superstar Beyonce has visited Haiti with a United Nations official for humanitarian affairs.

Haiti U.N. mission spokeswoman Sophie Boutaud de la Combe said Saturday that Beyonce visited the Caribbean country to look at progress made since a devastating earthquake in January 2010 and to "meet some of the people who were affected by it."

De la Combe says the American singer visited Haiti with Valerie Amos, undersecretary general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief co-ordinator.

Photos taken during her Haiti visit show Beyonce wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the name of her charity organization.

It wasn't immediately clear how long Beyonce's stop in Haiti was or exactly where she visited.

Official estimates say the 2010 quake that shattered Haiti's capital and surrounding areas claimed as many as 300,000 lives.
