Years of work put in to bring Paul McCartney to Edmonton

CTV Edmonton: Paul McCartney to play Rexall After much hype and speculation - it's official. Sir Paul McCartney will perform in Edmonton in November.

After a day of hype – it became official; Edmonton will host Sir Paul McCartney on one of his two Canadian concert dates, and the promoter said the concert is years in the making.

The announcement came after speculation brewed online as to who would take the stage at Rexall Place.

Before noon Friday, Live Nation and Northlands announced McCartney would perform at Rexall Place on Wednesday, November 28.

Live Nation said the announcement was the product of years or work promoting the city to Paul McCartney and his people.

“It was a three-year process to build it to this point, Barry Marshall from Paul’s camp was in town about a month ago,” Geoff Robins with Live Nation said. “[He] toured the city, [he] toured the building, then about a week after that we confirmed the show, he was so impressed.”

Before he appears in Edmonton, he will appear in Vancouver on November 25.

Robins said the show at Rexall is the smallest venue he will play on his ‘On the Run’ tour.

“He’s played crowds as big as 250,000 with this tour in Sao Paolo,” Robins said. “When you have the opportunity to be in this environment – intimate is the first word that comes to mind.

“You’ll have the chance to hear and see him from an acoustic perspective, that you wouldn’t see in a large stadium.

“This is once-in-a-lifetime for anybody.”

Tickets will be available in pre-sales on Wednesday, September 12 and Thursday, September 13 – and will be available to the general public the next day.

Ticket prices range from $37.77 to $274.27.

McCartney is only scheduled for four North American shows.
