RCMP investigate fatal collision on Highway 63

CTV Edmonton: Police investigate fatal collisions A couple of fatal collisions had Edmonton police and RCMP investigating Saturday morning.

Two men have died in a collision near Boyle Friday night.

Emergency crews responded to the call around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 63 at km 22, about 65 kilometers north of Boyle.

RCMP said two males, a 61-year-old driver and a 14-year-old passenger, were killed as a result of the collision.

Cst. Dan Fenton told CTV News the men were related but would not release any further details.

Investigators say the incident began when a southbound vehicle collided with a northbound tractor trailer.

“The resulting initial collision spun the car around in such a manner that it was put into the oncoming path of the second semi-tractor trailer unit,” Cst. Fenton explained.

The vehicle and first tractor trailer ended up in the ditch and the highway was closed for about six hours as investigators examined the scene.

The driver of the first tractor trailer was transported to a local hospital and then taken to Edmonton.

He remains in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, Cst. Fenton said.

“It is still under investigation as to who was at fault but it was driver error and we are investigating that.”

Boyle is about 160 kilometers north of Edmonton.
