Number of shootings in March looks like anomaly: Edmonton police

Eleven shootings were investigated by Edmonton Police Service in April.

The number is in line with the number of shootings Alberta’s capital city has seen over the past year, except for a spike of 20 in March.

“We’re happy to see that the March 2025 numbers appeared to be a bit of an anomaly,” Acting Staff Sgt. Thomas Hapke, of the firearms investigation section, said in a Thursday news release.

He said the trend established in 2024 otherwise appears stable.

So far in 2025, Edmonton police have seized 256 firearms, 58 of which were seized in April.
