Man who set fire ‘intentionally’ charged with attempted murder: RCMP

One man is facing charges which include attempted murder after Mounties say he intentionally set a fire to keep someone from leaving a residence.

Barrhead RCMP responded to reports of a structure fire on Range Road 45 on Dec. 13. When they arrived, a resident told police someone had tried to keep them from exiting the building.

After investigating, Mounties found the fire was set on purpose and soon arrested a 36-year-old man, according to a news release.

That man, a Barrhead resident, now faces charges of:

• attempted murder;
• arson - disregard for human life;
• forcible confinement;
• assault causing bodily harm; and
• assault.

He was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with an appearance in a Barrhead court on Tuesday.
