House in central Alberta catches fire after police fire shots during standoff: RCMP

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after at least one RCMP officer fired their service weapon during a standoff in central Alberta.

Mounties were asked by the Edmonton Police Service to arrest several people in a stolen vehicle who went into a home on Montana First Nation.

Two people who came out of the house were arrested without incident.

A third, who police believed was in possession of a gun, stayed in the house.

At 10:50 p.m. a confrontation happened between the occupant of the house and police and according to a news release “at least one officer” fired their service weapon.

Shortly after the confrontation the house caught fire and no one came out.

The Maskwacis Fire Department was called and still has control of the property.

The RCMP says an internal investigation will also be conducted into the incident.
