Gas leak in southeast Edmonton stopped, residents allowed back home

Emergency crews were on the scene Monday afternoon and a number of residents were evacuated, after a gas leak was reported.

Officials said construction equipment hit a gas line in the area of 23 Street and 44 Avenue, in the Aspen Meadows neighbourhood – emergency crews were called in at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

ATCO crews were on scene trying to repair the line a short time later, and three buildings were evacuated.

Officials on the scene told CTV News a 2” residential line was hit by an excavator.

Workers on the scene dug down and pinched off the gas line to stop the leak.

Shortly after 7 p.m., residents were being allowed back into their homes.
