Edmonton weather: Showers in the city, with heavier rain to the south and west

According to CTV Edmonton's Cory Edel, the week is going to have a mix of weather, including rain on Monday.

The heaviest, steadiest rain will stay south and west of Edmonton and area through the morning hours.

There’s a chance of some showers in the Edmonton region this morning, but the best chance for precipitation will come this afternoon and this evening.

Rainfall warnings are in effect for areas from just south of Hinton/Edson down through the Rocky Mountain House/Red Deer areas and then south through the Airdrie and Canmore regions.

Heavier rain and some thunderstorms are hitting areas from Drumheller south to Brooks and pushing northeast into east-central Alberta and possibly as far north as Cold Lake.

But, as an area of low pressure develops in southern Alberta, we’re expecting 50-70mm of rain to develop in the west within the rainfall warning zone.

Heavy snow is also likely in the mountains and a snowfall warning is in place for the Icefields Parkway.

Edmonton stays cloudy and cooler, with a high near 16 C and then we’ll get some showers and periods of light rain late in the day.

Skies are expected to clear out overnight and we’ll get some sunshine and a high near 20 C Tuesday.

There’s a slight chance of a spotty shower in the Edmonton area Tuesday evening, but it’s Wednesday night that looks to be our next best shot at some rain.
