Alberta and Ontario premiers agree to collaborate on energy and climate change efforts

Alberta and Ontario working together The premiers of Alberta and Ontario are teaming up to fight climate change.

The premiers of Alberta and Ontario announced Thursday morning that they had agreed to work together on energy and climate change initiatives.

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne said a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) had been signed between Alberta’s Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation (CCEMC) and Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE).

The collaboration means both sides are committed to looking into opportunities to cut greenhouse gas emissions in production, transportation and use of natural resources in both provinces, accelerating development of renewable energy and energy storage and finding new ways to use carbon dioxide.

The MOU stems from the $8 million Alberta-Ontario Innovation Program, jointly managed by Alberta Innovates-Technology Futures and the OCE.
