Dan Riskin is CTV News' Science and Technology Specialist, contributing science stories from across all disciplines including space, robotics, health, biology, physics, chemistry, and artificial intelligence.

Riskin's specialty is the biomechanics of bats, the subject of his MSc (York University ‘00) and PhD (Cornell University ’06) degrees, and of the more than 20 scientific papers he has authored or co-authored.

He is the former co-host of Discovery Canada’s DAILY PLANET, and Animal Planet’s MONSTERS INSIDE ME. He has hosted science specials for Science Channel, National Geographic, and CTV’s W5.

Riskin has been recognized with a multitude of awards and honours, including the Canadian Society of Zoologists’ Public Education Award (2020), The University of Alberta’s Distinguished Alumni Award (2015), and the Canadian Council for University Biology Chairs’ Science Promotion Award (2014). The shows he has hosted have also won a number of awards, including WorldFest-Houston’s Platinum Award (2019) and a Canadian Screen Award (2017).

Riskin’s first book, Mother Nature is Trying to Kill You, was a Canadian best-seller. He is fluent in both French and English. He is based in Toronto, where he lives with his wife Shelby and their three children.
