MONTREAL - A Cirque du soleil performer suffered head injuries after he fell off a trampoline Friday morning and had to be rushed to hospital.

The 24-year-old performer was doing general training exercises for the world-famous circus when the incident happened, an emergency-services spokesman said.

"When we arrived on the scene, the man was unconscious," said Benoit Garneau, operations chief for the citywide ambulance service Urgences sante. "He had head trauma so we quickly transported the victim to the hospital."

The performer's condition in hospital is not yet known.

The incident happened at a Montreal facility where the international troupe rehearses for shows.

The Cirque would not comment on the performer's condition.

"He's in good hands and our only concern right now is that he receives the best possible care," said Chantal Cote, a Cirque spokeswoman.

Another Cirque spokeswoman would only say that appropriate safety measures are taken during acrobatics.
