WINDSOR, Ont. - A Chrysler worker is facing charges of theft after thousands of copper welding tips were taken from the Windsor, Ont., minivan plant.

Windsor police found out that "identifiable" stolen copper was being fraudulently sold as scrap metal to a Windsor scrapyard.

The copper was identifiable because the welding tips were brand new and in perfect condition, and the same kind used by robots to weld minivan assemblies at the plant.

Police discovered that those tips were the latest in a long series of transactions made by one person since last April.

A total of 116,000 copper tips -- weighing more than 2,600 kilograms -- were sold to the scrapyard.

John Stanley Taylor, 40, is facing several charges, including theft, fraud and possession of stolen property.

Police said a suspect was captured on surveillance video making the transactions at the scrapyard.

Investigators "arrested him at his place of employment," said Sgt. Brett Co
