WHITEHORSE - Police say an RCMP officer in Whitehorse has been charged with sexual assault after his female colleague was allegedly touched while they were both on duty.
Yukon RCMP say the alleged incident occurred Jan. 4 and that a criminal investigation and the force's conduct process began shortly afterwards.
An investigation was conducted by a senior Yukon RCMP officer and reviewed by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.
The force says the investigation led to the officer being charged with sexual assault and he is scheduled to appear in territorial court on June 14.
The officer has not been named, but the RCMP says he has been with the force for 17 years.
Police say he has been suspended with pay since Feb. 6 and the conduct process is ongoing.
