WALKERTON, Ont. -- A 44-year-old man has been charged with murder for the second time in the case of a southwestern Ontario girl who went missing nearly 20 years ago.

Christine Harron, 15, of Hanover vanished after leaving high school in May 1993 and her body has never been found.

Anthony Ringel, of nearby Chesley, was charged in 2004 with first-degree murder.

He spent 22 months in prison until the charge was stayed before the matter came to trial due to how provincial police handled evidence gathered in the investigation.

Police continued to look into the girl's disappearance and say the investigation uncovered fresh evidence leading to a new charge against Ringel.

Ringel was charged with first-degree murder following his arrest Wednesday night, and remanded in custody until Monday at an appearance Thursday afternoon in a Walkerton, Ont., court.
