GANDER, N.L. - Police in central Newfoundland are investigating an accident that left one man dead after the car he was travelling in collided with a moose.

RCMP say the vehicle struck the animal just east of Gander on the Trans-Canada Highway at about 10 p.m. Monday.

They say a 52-year-old man from the area was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man who was driving the car was taken to Gander hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
