Oland family releases statement, will appeal murder conviction
The mother and wife of Dennis Oland have released a statement regarding his second-degree murder conviction in the death of his father, New Brunswick businessman Richard Oland.
Connie and Lisa Oland say the conviction marks an "unspeakably sad time" for their family.
"This week has represented the lowest point of what has been a devastating and unspeakably sad time for our family. Not only are we certain Dennis is innocent, we are certain the person responsible for Dick's murder remains at-large," the statement said.
"We know Dennis has been wrongfully convicted and we will pursue an appeal as soon as the process allows."
Their comments come as the New Brunswick Police Commission prepares to review the Saint John Police Department's investigation into Richard Oland's death.
Richard Oland was found dead in his Saint John office on July 7, 2011. His son, Dennis Oland, was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his father on Dec. 19.
Sentencing arguments for Dennis Oland are set to begin on Feb. 11.
