Provincial police have confirmed that a body found in rural Quebec belongs to a Montreal mother who went missing on Monday.

The body of Samantha Higgins, 22, was found Thursday night in Hinchinbrooke, which is an approximately 100 kilometres from Montreal.

Higgins’ mother was devastated after she got a knock on the door from police early Friday morning.

“It’s so hateful and so selfish,” Vanessa Higgins said through tears, “to take away somebody that filled everybody’s lives with so much happiness.”

Higgins’ fiancé reported her missing Tuesday after she failed to show up following a night of socializing at a friend’s house in the Montreal borough of LaSalle.

Police have not released any other details about their investigation.

Higgins leaves behind two children.
