A 12-year-old Manitoba boy is accused of uttering a threat during an online game to launch a school shooting in the province.
RCMP say they got word Feb. 19 from police in the United States about a threat being issued during a game involving several players.
Gamers in Onalaska, Wis. and Oswego, N.Y., had contacted their local police about a participant who said he was going to start the shooting within hours, but the school's location wasn't mentioned.
Mounties and U.S. law enforcement agencies worked together to track the player to a small southeastern community, but officers initially couldn't find the suspect and all schools in the vicinity of his home were notified and patrolled by officers.
The boy was arrested the same day at his residence, and a further investigation determined he did not have access to guns.
He will appear in court March 1.
