PETERBOROUGH, Ont. -- Police say a man is facing charges after allegedly fatally shooting a cat belonging to a neighbourhood resident.

They say the investigation began Thursday night when officers responded to a weapons call in Peterborough, Ont.

Investigators say they were told the cat had been shot with a pellet gun and was found dead outside a home.

They say a 34-year-old man, a resident of the street where the cat was found, was arrested and charged with killing, injuring or endangering animals.

Police say a pellet rifle and pellets were later seized from home.

They say the man has been further charged with possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, and under a Peterborough bylaw with discharging a firearm.
