LONDON, Ont. -- A 40-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a peace officer after an alleged incident that took place during a traffic stop east of London, Ont., last month.

Police say the incident took place around 10 p.m. on Feb. 5, when an Ontario Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Officer conducted a traffic stop of a commercial tractor trailer.

They say that when vehicle documents were requested, the driver of the tractor trailer allegedly hit the officer in the chest.

Police were called and the driver, who was from London, was arrested and charged.

He was set to appear in a London court on Thursday.
