Edmonton Police say the two people found dead in a vacant home earlier this week by a realtor were both shot to death.

In a statement Thursday evening, the Edmonton Police Service said the medical examiner has determined that both the man and the woman died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Police are treating their deaths as homicides.

The police also released the names of the victims: Irfan Ahmed Qureshi, 37, and Suzanne Marie Tran, 27.

The realtor discovered the bodies Wednesday afternoon in a home in southwest Edmonton and immediately called police.

Staff Sgt. Bill Clark told police that officers have some "good ideas" about what happened to the pair. He refused to go into detail.

"We got a lot of background stuff and different things to check out," he told CTV Edmonton on Wednesday. "Lots of work to do, but it's just too early to give out that information."
