Police recover firearm after reports of gunman in Dartmouth, N.S.

A lockdown has been lifted in Dartmouth N.S., hours after reports of a gunman on the roof of a scrap yard.

Police did not locate anyone with a gun, however officers did recover nearby what they’re describing as a long gun and a few pellet guns, reports CTV Atlantic's Heidi Petracek.

The police say it’s not clear who owns the guns. They wouldn’t elaborate on the specific type of firearms that were found.

Police descended on the business on Saturday afternoon after receiving a call about a male on the roof of a building with what appeared to be a long gun around 11:30 a.m. local time.

Petracek said she was in a car dealership across the street from the scrap yard when the lockdown came into effect.

"Several people did try to leave, but they were told quickly to get back inside," Petracek told CTV News Channel on Saturday afternoon, about four hours into the lockdown.

She said two individuals, thought to be employees of the business, emerged from the building with their hands in the air. They both were handcuffed by police, questioned and released.
