TEHACHAPI, Calif. - Firefighters say they've partially surrounded a wildfire north of Los Angeles that has burned at least 25 structures and is threatening about 150 others.

The blaze 10 miles (16 kilometres) south of Tehachapi is one of two in mostly rural Kern County that have forced about 2,300 people to evacuate homes.

Authorities did not say how many of the 25 structures that burned down were homes.

County fire Engineer Dustin Allegranza says the fire near Tehachapi is 25 per cent contained Wednesday morning. It has burned about 1,400 acres (565 hectares), or more than 2 square miles (5 square kilometres).

The fire erupted Tuesday about 70 miles (115 kilometres) north of Los Angeles and threatens the entire town of Old West Ranch in the eastern foothills of the Tehachapi Mountains.

Another fire in Sequoia National Forest has burned eight homes and six outbuildings, but no other homes are in immediate danger. It's about 15,600 acres (6,300 hectares), or about 24 square miles (62 square kilometres), and is only 5 per cent surrounded.
