Woman fined for January pedestrian collision that injured 3 children

A 60-year-old Lethbridge woman charged in a pedestrian collision that resulted in three children suffering serious injuries has been fined.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 20, 14-year-old Marcus, seven-year-old Juliana and five-year-old Zoey Bucud were hit at the intersection of 13th Avenue and 23rd Street North.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

The siblings were on their way to catch their school bus at the time and were walking in a crosswalk.

All three were transported to hospital in Calgary for injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The children are now out of hospital and continue to recover.

Janice Elizabeth Madsen pleaded guilty to three counts of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Three counts of careless driving were withdrawn.

Madsen’s fine was around $1,000.
