Will Harvey the Hound make it? Voting will soon close for Mascot Hall of Fame

There are only a few more days left to vote Harvey the Hound into the Mascot Hall of Fame.

Voting closes at 10 p.m. MT Friday to help the beloved Calgary Flames mascot be chosen from 28 different eligible mascots, including Boomer Sooner from the University of Oklahoma, Wally the Green Monster (Boston Red Sox) the Leprechaun (Notre Dame) and the Oregon Duck (University of Oregon).

Harvey is the only Canadian mascot on the 2025 ballot and one of two NHL mascots along with S.J. Sharkie (San Jose Sharks).

The annual vote, put on by the Mascot Hall of Fame, aims to recognize and honour the best mascot characters and programs.

Harvey has been the Flames’ mascot since 1983. He celebrated his 40th anniversary as the team’s mascot two seasons ago. He was also the NHL’s first mascot.

Kansas City Chief Travis Kelce and his brother Jason weighed in on the voting on their popular New Heights podcast, where they tried to drum up votes for The Bearcat (University of Cincinatti).

“Oh man, there’s a lot of good mascots in here that are up for it,” said Jason, who played for years for the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Yeah but our Bearcat – it’s iconic,” said Travis. Both brothers attended the University of Cincinatti and played together on the Bearcats.

The Mascot Hall of Fame says that between two and four mascots are inducted each year.
