U of C suspends football coach following inappropriate in-game comments

Blake Nill, head coach of the U of C Dinos football team, received a one game suspension for comments he made during a game in Edmonton

The University of Calgary Dinos were without their head coach for Saturday’s tilt with the UBC Thunderbirds after the post-secondary institution served Blake Nill with a one game suspension.

According to a statement released by the U of C on Saturday morning, Nill ‘acknowledged that he violated the university’s code of conduct during an incident in last week’s game at Alberta’.

“After witnessing an injury situation in the game last week, I made an inappropriate comment which violates the University of Calgary’s code of conduct and, quite frankly, my own personal standards,” said Nill in an interview with CTV Calgary. “I recognize the level of excellence that the U of C administers to, that the U of C sets and I also recognize my own personal integrity. It is disappointing but I accept it, and I will move on from this."

Nill would not elaborate on the nature of his comments or who they were directed at.

Without Nill at the helm, assistant coach Steve Buratto, a former CFL coach, led the Dinos to a 67-6 drubbing of the Thunderbirds, clinching first place in the Canada West conference.
